A woman of a certain reputation hears that Jesus is in town and will be dining at the Pharisees’ house. She hurries home and from her treasures, grabs the alabaster jar.
She sneaks down the streets, into the Pharisees’ house, and goes unseen by the servants. Quickly! If anyone hears her, they’re sure to drag her out.
She hears voices and slows her steps. Tries to slow her breathing as she waits for the right moment.
Is there a right moment to enter a room full of powerful men who know of her and reject her? What will they say? What could they do?
But she remembers who’s among them – a gentle protector who will not turn her away.
Or, at least, she hopes he will not.
A deep breath and a step forward into the light.
